Alberta municipal solar program

The Alberta Municipal Solar Program provides financial rebates to Alberta Municipalities who install grid-connected solar photo voltaic (PV) systems on municipally owned facilities or land and complete public engagement for the project. Who can participate? Municipalities: all designated municipalities within the Province of Alberta that meet the definition of “municipality” as per the Municipal Government Act.

Community-related organizations: non-profit community-related organizations are eligible to participate if the project is located on a municipally owned facility or land. While CROs are eligible to participate, the Municipality must be the signatory to the funding agreement and all reimbursements made under the program will be directed to the municipality. Such instances will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The Alberta Municipal Solar Program will provide rebates of up to $0.90 per watt to municipalities for installing solar on municipal buildings, such as offices, fire halls, community centers and more. Projects up to 5MW of installed capacity will receive the full AMSP rebate. The rebate provided by the MCCAC will not exceed 25% of eligible expenses. The Alberta Municipal Solar Program started accepting applications on March 1, 2016.

Solar For schools program

The Solar for Schools Program provides financial rebates to Alberta Public School Authorities who install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on existing school facilities or land in their jurisdiction and complete a student education initiative as part of the project.

Schools within the province of Alberta which serve Kindergarten (K) and/or a set of grades 1-12 and report to School Authorities classified as Public, Separate, Francophone, and Charter by Alberta Education are eligible to participate in the Solar for Schools Program.

Expansions to existing systems installed prior to the launch of the updated Alberta Municipal Solar Program are eligible, however only the expansion portion of the system is eligible for funding.

Participants are eligible to receive a rebate per watt of total installed capacity ($/W). The rate tier is determined by the total installed capacity of a project submitted through a single Alberta Municipal Solar Program Application.

Edmonton Solar PV Incentive Program

The City of Edmonton is helping Edmontonians install solar systems on their homes to produce renewable energy and offering $0.40/watt towards the cost of the system, which is roughly 15% of the cost of going solar.

Brazeau County Municipal Energy Efficiency Rebate Program

The Brazeau County is committed to helping our citizens reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. The Municipal Energy Efficiency Rebate Program will help residents receive great savings for qualifying home improvements. The savings are made even greater when combined with rebates from Energy Efficiency Alberta and any in-store retail rebates.

All Brazeau County residents are encouraged to take steps to increase energy efficiency and reduce water consumption. This greatly benefits both your wallet and the environment. When you use less electricity (whether in heating or lighting), you save on your monthly bills, and you require less electricity to be produced, resulting in reduced greenhouse gas emissions. When you use less water, you are accomplishing the same thing: reducing the amount of energy required to process and deliver it.

Enmax purchase and Lease options

Since 2009, ENMAX Energy has helped Albertans use pure sunlight to help power their homes, schools and businesses. To date, they’ve installed over 600 systems representing approximately 50 per cent of the installed solar in Alberta and recognizes CBI as one of their top authorized solar installers.

How it works:

  • Lease Option

ENMAX Energy lease option lets you choose the down payment and resulting monthly payments, so you can manage the cost over a 15-year term. You can choose to purchase your system outright or distribute your payments over a 15-year lease with a variable down payment, typically between 25% and 75%. Interest rates vary, but higher down payments result in lower interest rates, extended workmanship and production warranties on solar modules for up to 30 years.

  • Purchase Option

ENMAX Energy provides a purchase option so you can purchase your solar system outright. The purchase option comes with a one-year limited maintenance and repair warranty.
